Citation Guidelines

The Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD) provides a platform for the collection, management, and analysis of DNA barcode data. To ensure proper attribution and to maintain the integrity of scientific research, please follow these citation guidelines when referencing BOLD in your work.

General Citation Format

When citing the use of BOLD to produce barcode data or acquiring identifications,
please use the following formats

Data Citation Format

Data Retrieval

For a Single Record:
One identifier (either SampleID or ProcessID). Name of the specimen depository. Access date via boldsystems.org.

Format:
Identifier (SampleID or ProcessID). Specimen Depository. (Accessed on YYYY-MM-DD) via boldsystems.org

For Multiple Records:
A semicolon-separated list, where each entry combines an identifier (either SampleID or ProcessID) with its corresponding specimen depository. Follow this with the access date via boldsystems.org

Format:
Identifier1 (SampleID or ProcessID) - Specimen Depository1; Identifier2 (SampleID or ProcessID) - Specimen Depository2. (Accessed on YYYY-MM-DD) via boldsystems.org
