Data Portal

An interactive gateway designed for the tracking and dissemination of DNA barcode reference data.

Designed to facilitate access to the extensive DNA barcode database.

Query the database based on geography, taxonomy, dataset codes, and institution names.  Access dashboards that support the tracking of trends by country and institution.  Download large volumes of data in standard formats.

National dashboards

Select any nation to view all available data specific to that region, providing a single snapshot of all data associated with the country.

Brazil

Brazil hosts complex ecosystems, from the Amazon Rainforest to the Atlantic Forest, and is home to many endemic species. The country is involved in many conservation programs, and DNA barcoding efforts are gaining momentum.

South Africa

South Africa, serving as Africa’s DNA barcoding hub, is also home to a rich diversity of organisms. From the Cape Floristic Region to the savannas, multiple DNA barcoding programs are operating across the country.

Canada

As the birthplace of DNA barcoding, Canada’s dashboard serves as a model for national barcoding programs and provides insights into the country’s contributions to global biodiversity documentation.

Highlighting global contributions

BOLD is committed to recognizing contributions from researchers and institutions around the globe.  An important aspect of the portal is its attribution fields, which highlight the vital work of data providers and curators.

Institutional dashboards

These dashboards provide up-to-date information on the contributions of individual institutions, research centres, and departments.  A few example pages are below:

Museu Paraense Emilio
Goeldi

Specializes in documenting the region's rich biodiversity. Discover their efforts in cataloging and preserving unique species using state-of-the-art DNA barcoding techniques.

University of Johannesburg

At the forefront of biodiversity research in Africa. Access insights into regional species, ongoing projects, and collaborations shaping the continent's conservation strategies.

Canadian National Collection of Insects, Arachnids and Nematodes

The Canadian National Collection of Insects, Arachnids, and Nematodes (CNC) is one of the world's largest and most comprehensive collections of its kind, housing over 16 million specimens.

Search Guidelines:

Multiterm Searches: Use quotes for multi-word terms (e.g., "United States" Mammalia).

Context Clarification: Specify contexts with tags like [geo], [tax], [ids], [inst], [researcher] for more precise searches (e.g., Florida[geo] for the state Florida).
